The short answer

Septic repair covers everything from a blocked line or failed baffle to a broken pump, a collapsed lid or a failing drainfield. In South Carolina a Tier 1 installer cannot legally repair an existing system at all. We hold Tier 3 in South Carolina and are certified in Georgia, so we can diagnose and repair the whole system, not just the easy parts.

A sealed system should not smell. Odor means a crack, a failed seal, a broken lid or surfacing effluent.

If you have a pump or control panel, the alarm is doing its job. Do not silence it and forget it.

Grass suddenly greener over the field

The most polite early warning a septic system gives you. Worth acting on while it is still cheap.

The diagnosis matters more than the repair, because the difference between a quick fix and a major repair is what actually failed.

    Find out what actually failed

    We open the tank and look. Blockage, baffle, filter, pump, line, or genuine drainfield failure. These look identical from the house and cost wildly different amounts.

    Tell you straight

    If it is a blockage, we say so, and you pay for a blockage. Nobody gets sold a drainfield they do not need. That is how Chris puts it, and we put it on the invoice.

    Repair or replace the failed component

    Baffles, filters, lids, risers, pumps, control panels, distribution boxes and lines. Most repairs are same visit or next visit.

    Permit if the repair needs one

    Both states require a permit for repairs that alter the system. We handle that. It is also why a Tier 1 contractor cannot legally do this work in South Carolina.

Questions people actually ask

My septic is backing up. What do I do right now?
Stop running water immediately, including washing machines and dishwashers. Do not flush. Keep people away from any standing sewage. Then call us. Continuing to use water while the system is backing up is what turns a contained problem into a damaged house.
Can a drainfield be repaired, or does it have to be replaced?
Sometimes it can be repaired. It depends whether the failure is a blockage, a broken line, hydraulic overload from too much water, or a genuinely exhausted soil absorption area. Only the last one requires replacement, and it needs to be confirmed rather than assumed.
Do I need a permit to repair or replace a septic system?
Yes, in both states, for repairs that alter the system. That is also why installer tier matters: a Tier 1 license in South Carolina does not permit repair work on an existing system at all.
Why is the grass over my drainfield greener than the rest of the yard?
Because effluent is reaching the surface or close to it, and it is fertilising the grass. It is one of the earliest visible signs of a drainfield struggling, and it is worth acting on while options are still cheap.
Can tree roots damage a septic system?
Yes, routinely. Roots seek moisture and will enter lines and tanks through joints and cracks. Jetting can clear them, but if a tree is sitting on top of the field the long term answer is usually the tree, not the pipe.
Will adding a bedroom affect my septic system?
Yes. Tank and drainfield capacity are permitted against bedroom count, so adding a bedroom without a permit leaves you with an undersized system and a house that gets difficult at resale. Get the permit first.
How long does a septic system last?
A well maintained conventional system commonly runs decades. Pumping on schedule, keeping heavy vehicles off the field and not overloading it with water are the three things that decide whether you are at the long end or the short end of that.
How much does it cost to fix a septic system?
Anywhere from a few hundred dollars for a filter or baffle to five figures for a drainfield replacement. That is exactly why we diagnose before quoting rather than after.
